Celebrating the 14th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway
Somo Monarks was proud to partner with the New York Honduras Soccer League, Inc. for its 14th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway at Ferry Point Park in the Bronx. The event brought families, young people, and community leaders together for another amazing year of connection, celebration, and support.
Ferry Point Park serves as an important gathering place for the New York Honduras Soccer League, which hosts weekly soccer tournaments from April through October. These tournaments provide more than athletic competition. They create a consistent space where Bronx families can build relationships, celebrate Honduran culture, and strengthen their connection to the community.
This year’s Back-to-School Giveaway focused on helping students begin the school year feeling confident and prepared. With support from Bronx Representative Ritchie Torres, children received backpacks and essential school supplies to support their learning.
For Somo Monarks, this partnership represents what community work is all about: showing up, building meaningful relationships, and making sure young people have access to the resources they need to succeed. A new backpack may seem like a simple gift, but for a child preparing for school, it can provide excitement, confidence, and a strong start to the year.
We are grateful to the New York Honduras Soccer League, Inc., Representative Ritchie Torres, the volunteers, families, and everyone who helped make the 14th Annual Back-to-School Giveaway possible.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the event, Willie Alvarez, owner and Chief Creative Strategist of Somo Monarks, shared a personal memory:
“I remember tearing the used pages out of an old notebook so I could use it for the new school year. During those years, a plastic bag served as my bookbag. Knowing that my mother struggled to provide for five children made me realize that other parents were facing similar challenges. That experience inspired the first Back-to-School Giveaway 14 years ago.”
